I wrote the quote pictured here some time ago as a reflection of the way my life has always been. Today is no different, and tomorrow too. It seems if I get comfortable, many things in my life change. The Universe has a way of reminding one that life’s lessons are not over, and it’s time to ‘move on.’
Part of my’ moving on’ in 2019 was to write and compile a journal using quotes I’ve written over several years of learning how to find my way back to self. It’s titled, Today I AM… An Empowering Journal Back To Self.
I struggled through mishaps, accidents, and losses leading to a dark time in my life. Five years ago, realizing I was depressed, I asked myself, “Who am I?”. I realized I had lost me. The person I looked at in the mirror seemed foreign and unhappy. The ‘me’ I once knew as a young adult, in midlife years and beyond had disappeared. I didn’t know who I was anymore. I had lost the essence of ‘me’ and with it came feelings of regret, self-criticism, depression, loss of self-esteem, and confidence. I knew I had to find a way back to whom I once was and get to know ‘me’ again.
I recognized I was living in the past, I flipped to thoughts of the future, which only lead to anxiety, so I settled into ‘today,’ realizing it is the present which is here, now, at least at this minute, that I have control over.
I started with gratitude, recognizing that I needed to understand all the positive things in my life. Grateful for what I had at the moment. I learned about healing, grounding, mindfulness, intentions, releasing, and love for myself. It didn’t happen in a day, more like years. I found creative practices to engage my mind and spirit, and it is these practices I share in the ‘Today I Am…’ journal. I created space in my life’s journey to get to know me again, and I found that person who I am now at this minute.
Filled with uplifting ‘Today I Am…’ quotes (similar to the photo you see here), which came to me over the years of healing, mindful exercises, and creative practices, the journal helps a person become aware of the world surrounding them at the moment, learning how to view each ‘Today’ with new promise, gratitude, positivity, light, and love.
As change is imminent, I’ve not become too comfortable with who I’ve found looking in the mirror at me, but I can honestly say that I’ve discovered someone who can grow with me and who knows how to define Joy, is grateful and is living in the now of Today. Today I am…
